rider 1019 for ALC 7

Just got my packet this weekend.

Back on my bike I will go after 5 years off it. I did the California AIDS ride in 2001. I have done 15 or so centuries and lots of bike riding. Just been off the bike since 2002 and starting back up. Not in the greatest shape. In fact rusty and creaky. So it's a bit scary and a bit nerve racking but I'm very happy to have signed up to ride.

Remember Dorothy, rider #6048? She made it!

A couple of days back she sent me an e-mail in which she was saying that, apparently, my donation had opened a flood gate of others.

I know my tentmate John aka rhinobiker, rider #4874 this year, gave on my behalf.

I want to believe others among you did donate too so on her behalf thank you all very much.

note concerning video: at 3:20, it's Diane, rider #4849 this year.

Hope to say hi to her at the Starbucks café in Castro, she used to work there last year, does she still?

sponsoring newbie

Well, time flies by and June seems to be just around the corner. Must be the temperatures that are unusually mild.

Sadly enough there is still no cure for AIDS and that's the whole point of this post: fundraising and sponsoring.

I was ultra fortunate last year to participate as a cyclist and I want to pay back. I'm going to crew again  which does not require any minimum but I know there are people who are looking for money in order to ride.

I'm interested in sponsoring newbies not so much 'old' participants whom I suspect have built up a solid network and will get by without too much trouble. I am grateful that so many offered their help at this time of the year in 2006 and helped me raise enough so much so I had the money a good month prior to the ride. I gave in 2004 and 2005, I want to do it again in 2007.

Just remember: there is no such thing as a small donation and none, I repeat no amount is ridiculous.

Thank you.
