wanted: older bike for ALC

I've just come to the realization that my wonderful '98 Stumpjumper, which I've ridden 6000+ miles without replacing anything and was planning on riding on ALC, is in serious need of an overhaul. Instead of spending $200+ on parts, I'd rather acquire something new to me and more suited to the task. So I figure I'll start asking around and this is a good place to start.

Does anyone have an older, now-unused road bike that they're willing to part with? Here's some specifics about what I'm looking for:
I'm 5'10" on a good day, but with short arms so I'm looking for something between 50-54cm, possibly a 56 if the geometry is wacky. I'd ideally like a steel frame and indexed shifting of some sort, but these aren't essential. I don't care if it has Dura Ace hubs or a Record headset, just something RSX/105/equivalent group or better would be nice.
Once I get my tax refunds, I'll have about $300 to put towards this, possibly a little but not too much more.
Thank you for reading this and if anyone has a lead, I'd appreciate it.

keep an eye on ebay auctions that are local to you. And go check the bike out for fit before you bid. I got a very nice italian road bike with most campagnolo parts for less than 100. good luck! =)

the best i can do is point you at berkeley's used bike stores. maybe they will have something you're looking for.

http://www.shopinberkeley.com/type/goods/bicycles.php

there also used to be a store called broke spoke (or something on university) that sold used bikes.

also check out the classified for papers around ucberkeley. students are often selling their bikes.
